Germany Germany Traunstein

There and back again.

What an adventuresome summer! ... I got back to Germany on Friday morning after two long flights and was really exhausted for the lack of sleep and the jet lag and all, but now I’m fine again. Traunstein is as green and rainy as ever and I enjoy being back and letting the impressions of that summer settle...

My last week in SouthAmerica I was travelling together with Miguel and Ben - both really jocular and funny -snowboarding and hiking in Patagonia, biking and whale watching in Puerto Madryn at the Atlantic Coast and shopping and going out and eating fine Argentinian meat in Buenos Aires. We had a good time travelling together and we were laughing so much. One thing I’ve learnt this summer is that no matter how exotic or awe-inspiring a surrounding or a trip is, the people you are travelling with make all the difference...

In hindsight, this summer went by in a flash. Among the most impressive things I’ve experienced were the strenuous 4 nights/five days trekking to Macchu Pichu Inca Sanctuary, the exotic landscape and sometimes extreme climate in the altiplano of Peru and Bolivia, the extreme poverty and shocking living conditions in Bolivia, the warm-hearted and curious Southamerican people I met, all the funny and interesting travellers (some of them had been travelling for more than 15 months when I met them!) I shared time with, the horse-back riding in Argentina guided by a real Gaucho, the mind-blowing beauty of Patagonia, the whale and sealion watching in Puerto Madryn, the last night out in Buenos Aires with Ben, Miguel and Tal and Atar (two Israeli travellers I ran into several times and became friends with) and many more...

I’m grateful for having been able to make this trip... It has enriched my life in many ways (f. ex. I REALLY learnt to appreciate having a warm shower and having the luxury of heating - something that is not self-evident in Peru and Bolivia)...
I’m also glad to be back again, refuelled for university and looking forward to maybe seeing some of those travellers in Innsbruck to go snowboarding and skiing together...

Anyone out there thinking about travelling independently to a different unknown country - do it. It’s one of the best things that can happen to you.

Salut !
Even if it is impossible to describe what people live and feel during their trip, I think that you expressed very well your emotion... It was a pleasure to read your news !

Have fun and enjoy the life !

Be sure that we definitively want to see you, in Germany, Austria, France, it does not matter !

Ciao.

I can only agree to anything Dani says in her 'report'. I did similar trips - one of them in Central America - and can witness that she is so right! Nothing is better than the real thing. To understand - or to glims another way of living you have to see it face-2-face, without a guide, without other tourists, without influence from home. Disconected to all we know we are most likely to understand different ways of living. And this IS so important in a world that claims to be in the process of globalisation. Because without understanding internet, TV, chep flights, int.companies etc. don't mean a thing - they are worthless, or would only use as a tool to exploid the weaker ones. But with knowledge and understanding all of this mediums can unite every nation, tribe and simple people liek you and me.
Dani is right. Traveling, (not touristm)is one of the greatest things we can do. For us and as a contribution to the world comunity.
Go and see the world. Go on!
